FAQs

What should my teacher/coach/boss write about in my letter of recommendation?

The letter should briefly describe how they know you and how long they have known you. It should highlight your positive qualities and highlight examples of your good character. If the writer is familiar with your community service background, we recommend asking them to elaborate on that background. Think short and sweet!

Can I count paid work as community service?

No, all community service hours must be unpaid. However, we understand that when students are â€‹employed, it can be difficult to complete 100 hours of community service. We offer a waiver for students who work 20 hours per week or more, allowing you to apply with at least 50 hours of community service in the last four (4) years, rather than 100. To utilize this waiver, CLICK HERE  and email a copy to atzapplication@gmail.com no later than the scholarship due date, June 12, 2026.
